Free Meal Delivery on Major Holidays
Holidays can be difficult for all senior citizens, but more so for seniors limited by income. Our goal is to provide joy to those low income seniors, helping lessen loneliness and depression during the holidays.
- Each year on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas day our volunteers deliver more than 4,000 free hot meals to 192 low-income buildings in 8 counties of Southeastern Wisconsin.
- Every holiday, we prepare, package, and deliver the 4,000+ meals with the help of more than 400 volunteers.
- Volunteers deliver the free meals right to the seniors’ door so they don’t have to travel to a meal site during cold weather.
- Individuals served by Community Projects for Seniors know they can count on us not only for a hearty meal, but for a smile and a kind word from a caring volunteer.
Free Meals at Social Events
- Based on our resources, we also provide meals throughout the year designed as special opportunities. These events are closed parties only open for the tenants of each subsidized low income housing site.
- In the summer months, we provide nature trips to Blue Lotus Farm & Retreat Center. There, the seniors have their free meal surrounded by acres of nature.
These special events are meant to serve a hot wholesome meal, and also provide opportunities for fun activities and social interaction in a safe environment with other seniors.
We provide transportation to all events that are held away from the low income site where these seniors reside.
At each event volunteers serve hot meals, socialize, and dance to live music with the seniors. Our volunteers and staff do a lot of the chicken dance and the Hokey Pokey!
Free Delivery of Household Products & Groceries
- Once a year, a senior may receive a care package, which consists of non-perishable groceries and useful household products such as toilet paper, Kleenex, paper towels, and hand soap.
- We do not develop or maintain programs which encourage dependency on us, so our care package is meant as a one-time gift to relieve stress caused by income limitations. We expect to free up an individual’s grocery money for one month in order to purchase a needed item anywhere from a new shower curtain liner to medication: basic common responsibilities.
